Bloc Party, la biographie

Le quatuor naît de la rencontre entre Kele Okereke (chant et guitare) et Russell Lissack (guitare), en 1998. Gordon Moakes (basse) et Matt Tong (batterie) rejoignent la formation pour devenir Angel Range, Union et plus tard Bloc Party. Leur musique se veut de la mouvance de groupes tels Franz Ferdinand, Maxïmo Park, ou The Bravery, c'est-à-dire proche de la New Wave britannique des années 80. La formation présente pour la première fois son punk rock au public, en 2004, avec deux EPs que sont "Bloc Party EP" et "Little Thoughts EP".

Les britanniques feront réellement une percée grâce à leur premier album, "Silent Alarm", en 2005. Un succès dû à la façon de chanter du leader (d'origine nigérienne et ouvertement homosexuel) qui n'est pas sans rappeler Robert Smith de The Cure. Quelques mois après la sortie de ce premier opus, les Anglais reviennent avec un disque de remixes, intitulé "Silent Alarm Remixed". En juillet 2005, ces derniers enregistrent pour le projet caritatif, "Help-A Day In The Life", un titre inédit "The Present". Un deuxième opus, "A Weekend In The City", paraît en 2007. "Intimacy", troisième album du groupe arrive chez les disquaires en octobre 2008, porté par le single "Mercury".
