Charlie Winston, la biographie

Charlie Winston est un auteur-compositeur britannique. Il s'illustre dans un registre de soulmen tels que Ray Charles ou encore Tom Waits. Il grandit dans le sud de l'Angleterre, où il commence à chanter du blues dès l'âge de huit ans. A 17 ans, il intègre une école renommée de Londres, où il apprend le piano-jazz. Il se met rapidement à composer ses premières compositions. Quelques années après, il se met à tourner avec le groupe de son frère, Tom Baxter.

Sa rencontre avec Peter Gabriel va alors changer sa vie. Ce dernier va lui permettre d'assurer ses premières parties et lui signe un contrat d'artiste. En 2007, il propose l'opus "Make Way". En France, il se fait notamment connaître car son single "Like A Hobo" est utilisé en tant que générique pour l'émission "Le Grand Journal", sur Canal+. Début 2009, il revient avec "Hobo". Deux ans plus tard, il sort l'album "Running Still".

Hey people,

Charlie here!

10 days ago I took a plane to Malawi for a little adventure. I have an old school friend who I had not seen for 7 years (at least) so as well as spending some time travelling through the country alone, it was also a chance to to see what him and his girlfriend had been doing out there. I was completely blown away by there work! In the last 4 years they have managed and developed the The Lilongwe Wildlife Centre, creating a model for responsible tourism that is truly inspiring. So much so that I have chosen to be a patron (ambassador) of the trust. Before leaving Malawi yesterday morning for my return to London, I made a little video with some locals who are currently getting literacy schooling there. I think you'll like the clip - it's testament to the wonderfully open spirit that Malawians seem to naturally have. They are some of the most friendly, gentle and happy people I have encountered. It was a trip that I will never forget and I look to my return. Tomorrow I am going to write a blog about it - bit too jet lagged for that now.
