DJ Shadow, la biographie

Josh Davis naît, la 1er janvier 1973, à Hayward, une banlieue de San Fransisco, en Californie. Dès 1991, il sort pour Hollywood Records une série de cassettes, "Reconstructed From The Ground Up". Peu à peu, il se fait connaître dans le milieu et fonde le label Solesides avec Lateef the Truthspeaker et le duo Lattyrx. En 1993, sort le single "Entropy". James Lavelle, fondateur de Mo'Wax, fait appel à lui pour qu'il enregistre l'une des premières sorties de son nouveau label, "In /Flux". Le single devient un des titres fondateurs de la musique trip hop. Il s'agit également du début de la carrière européenne de DJ Shadow. L'album "Endtroducing" sort en 1996.

Deux ans plus tard, le DJ livre "Pre-emptive Strike", tourne avec le groupe Radiohead et participe à l'aventure UNKLE, un album concept où se mélangent stars et grands noms du rock et du rap, avec le morceau "Psyence Fiction". En 1999, il monte le projet Quannum, qui rassemble les principaux acteurs de Solesides réunis pour concocter un label hip-hop traditionnel. Cette même année, sort le très recommandable "Quannum Spectrum". Après "Product Placement", Josh Davis prend enfin le temps de s'occuper de lui avec son second album solo en 2002, "The Private Press". Deux ans plus tard, il revient avec "Live ! In Tune and on Time", suivi de "The Outsider" en 2006. A l'automne 2011, il livre son nouveau projet intitulé "The Less You Know, The Better".

I can probably address several questions quickly: re: Unkle, yes, I would def work with James again. re: new album, taking my time...anxious to start though. re: when I'm coming to *your* town, it's a big world out there but soon hopefully! There's no place I'm avoiding intentionally

Edouard is asking, "Do you play again with Cut Chemist, if so, do you do a tour in Europe?" I'm sure Cut and I will get together for another set at some point, but at the moment, he's locked into the Jurassic 5 reunion dates. If and when we do though, there's little doubt that we'll be back in Europe.

Question is, "is it true you did all of endtroducing on an mpc?" Yes, in the sense that all sample work, chops etc were done within the MPC...other equipment was used of course, including turntables for scratching, mix desk for mixing, early version of Pro Tools for editing. Thanks for asking Zach

Question is, "what was your visualization and manifestation in your mind while creating midnight in a perfect world?" The inspiration for Midnight was the surroundings that I grew up in. Davis is a small-ish town surrounded by fields, in other words, it's not an endless suburbia, it has boundaries of quiet and space. I was traveling a lot during that time, and found myself longing for (and trying to manifest) that quiet and space. The music is intended to do just that. Thanks for asking, Ashcon
