PJ Harvey, la biographie

Polly Jean Harvey, dite PJ Harvey, naît le 9 octobre 1969 à Corscombe en Angleterre. Au départ, elle joue de la guitare et chante dans un groupe formé avec Steven Vaughan et Rob Ellis. En 1991, le trio fait quelques concerts et sort un single intitulé "Dress". En 1992, elle se fait remarquer par le label Island, un contrat se signe et quelques mois après sort l'album "Dry". Le style est agressif, brûlant, le public adore et achète ses disques. La même année, la jeune femme s'exporte aux Etats-Unis et le magazine Rolling Stone la désigne "meilleur compositeur et meilleur espoir de l'année". Elle travaille ensuite avec le producteur Steve Albini pour son deuxième album, "Rid of Me", en 1993. La même année, sort l'album "To Bring You My Love".

Pour ce troisième disque, PJ Harvey change d'image et enchaîne alors les duos (Nick Cave, Tricky) et fait un bout d'essai dans le film d'Hal Hartley "The Book of Life". Fin 1998, elle revient avec l'album "Is this Desire ?". En 2000, elle reforme son ancien groupe pour enregistrer "Stories From the City, Stories From the Sea", suivi de "Uh Huh Her", en mai 2004. Trois ans plus tard, PJ Harvey revient avec "White Chalk", où l'on retrouve les producteurs Flood et John Parish ou encore les Dirty Three's Jim White et Eric Drew Feldman. Dans ce projet, la chanteuse rock insère davantage de piano que de guitare. Début 2011, elle signe son retour avec l'album "Let England Shake", récompensé du prix Mercury.

PJ HARVEY IS TO ANNOUNCE WINNER OF BBC RADIO 3’S 2013 WORLD ROUTES ACADEMY ON SUNDAY JANUARY 27TH
2013 sees the 4th year of Radio 3’s ground-breaking World Routes Academy. Launched in 2010, the BBC Radio 3 World Routes Academy aims to support and inspire UK-based young world music artists by bringing them together with an internationally renowned artist in the same field. Over the past three years the scheme has worked with musicians with roots in traditional music from India, the Middle East and Colombia.
Lucy Duran launches the 2013 World Routes Academy with live performances by the 2012 mentee José Hernando Noguera and the Roberto Pla Latin Band. Plus the first public appearance together by the new apprentice and their mentor who are announced at this special event from the BBC Radio Theatre in London by PJ Harvey. The show will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 at 10pm on Sunday January 27th. More details can be found here
